What is the Employer Association Group?
The Employer Association Group (EAG) is a department of the National Association of Manufacturers. It is the vehicle for local and regional manufacturing and employer associations to become members of the NAM. There are 65 independent member associations of the EAG. Membership is voluntary.
Collectively, the EAGs represent an estimated 55,000 employers across the United States, Guam and Saipan. The members of an individual EAG typically come from the manufacturing and service sectors and tend to have, but are not limited to — 50 employees or less. The membership mix of each individual EAG varies significantly by region.
Oversimplified, EAGs typically fall into one of the two following categories:
- Manufacturing Associations
Primary focus is on the support and advocacy of the associations' local, regional, state or multi-state manufacturing membership. Typically provide at least some human resource products and services to the employer community, but may offer a broader array of association sponsored services. Tend to have a higher percentage of manufacturing employers. Tend to be based east of the Mississippi. More likely to be involved in community affairs. More likely to be active in public policy/political advocacy.
- Employer and Industrial Relations Associations
Typically provide human resource products and services (i.e. H.R. hotlines, training services, compensation surveys) to the employer community. Less community focus. Broad base of employer membership, including manufacturing, service, hospitals, etc. May or may not be involved in public policy/political advocacy.
